On the 20th Mar, a squad of 9 players from both the U8's Blues and Reds competed in the Maldon Floodlit Tournament. The first match was at 5pm with our first match at 5.15. Listed below are the highlights from our five games:
Our first match was against Baddow Spartak, we took the lead in the first half with a great free kick from Luke and only because of a fantastic save from Joe we went in at half time 1 up. In the second half Baddow equalised, Oliver then restored our lead only for Baddow to find another equaliser in the dying seconds.
Our second match was against Feering Falcons the first half finished with neither team managing to find the net. In the second half we managed to take the lead with another goal from Luke and we held on well for our first victory.
The third game was against Wilvale Rangers, we managed to take the lead in the first half when Korben deflected Luke's shot goalwards to beat the Wilvale keeper. Again we kept a clean sheet to secure our second victory of the evening.
Our next game was against Focus Ferrers Falcons, this was a really close game, both teams playing some good football. Focus had a great chance in the first half which was only thwarted by a superb double save from Joe. The game finished 0-0.
Our last game was against Chelmsford City, who had won all their previous games convincingly. The boys were all starting to get tired but were still trying really hard. Chelmsford took the lead in the first half and as much as the boys tried they were unable to find an equaliser. The final score was 1-0 to Chelmsford.
I hope the boys enjoyed the evening even though we didn't leave Maldon until after 9pm, I'm sure they all slept well that night. The boys improved as the night went on and played some very good football at times. They can all be proud of themselves.
