Already it seems to have been a long hard winter but I still feel more is on the way. Although we have trained indoors, match sharpness is a worry but training has gone well and to pick out a few names for praise – Lewis has been fantastic – working very hard with both feet, also Karlin, again training very well putting in a lot of effort. Jye in particular has impressed – so well done and keep up the good work in the drills and Skill Skool!
Onto the game – Tempest. Although a D League side not a team to be underestimated. Go in to any game complacent and you might just come unstuck. So key today – discipline be confident and pass and move. A very cold day saw the match KO delayed to give the pitch maximum time to defrost.
Kick off and ER goal with less than 15 seconds on the watch. Jamie played a through ball to Liam who put in an inch perfect cross left, Aidan a tap in 1-0. Great move great start.
We had wanted the boys to impress the opposition with passing and that’s exactly what they did from the off.
The ball was being knocked around very neatly; James went on a mazy run into the box, only to be brought down and with 6 mins on the clock James brushed himself down and coolly slotted home for no. 2.
Now the passing got a little too polite for me and perhaps the boys should have had a bit of a go at times and it took us until the 23rd minute until we hit the back of the net again. Liam battled hard for the ball in the box and put Karlin in 3-0 – well done Karlin.
3 minutes later after another nice piece of play, Jamie, who was playing fantastic football put over a beauty and ! well Karlin again – then would you believe it just like buses on 33 mins a corner delivered pinpoint , Karlin popped up to nut it in. Karlin a well deserved hat trick for you!
Jye, playing midfield was holding the ball up well, passing brilliantly, his attitude is spot on at the moment being a bit too unselfish “Jye have a go!” that’s exactly what he did from about 25 metres out, left foot, looked wide when he hit it but it curled in a treat top corner “Peach”.
So half time 6-0.
Not much to change at half time.
Lee having a great game, keep working hard, tackling hard.
Nidal rock steady at the back with Lewis and Alex.
Just keep it up boys don’t get complacent have a go a little more!
So kick off in the second half and straight back to work again, the ball neatly knocked around the pitch and the midfield battling really hard. Karlin, again in the thick of the battle, winning the ball back in their box put Liam in, only to be brought down – the finger pointed at the spot, Liam who had been getting a little frustrated spot kicked to make it 7-0.
15 mins in a neat passage of play saw Liam involved again, this time to put Aidan in and a cool finish made it 8.
To be fair to Tempest they all played their hearts out, not giving up and even had their chances. A particular through ball saw their striker 1 on 1 with Ryan, who made a magnificent save, a bit of a wake-up call for us.
The build up play was great, one-twos, over-laps back heels really, really good.
18 mins in to the 2nd the ball played into Liam in the box who flicked it up spun round and smashed it in brilliant 9-0 and a minute later Liam played Aidan into make it 10 without reply.
We started to overwhelm Tempest at this point and James on a Solo run hit a super strike from outside the box to make it 11-0.
A minute later a bit of a goal mouth scramble with the ball ping ponging around, Aidan put it away 12-0.
Two minutes after that (not to be outdone) Nidal ran through midfield goal bound and a super strike made it 13.
But like I said Tempest did not give up and all credit to them and an ex-Athletic player Jack Hipkin, controlled the ball magnificently on his chest spun round and hit a venomous strike which left the keeper no chance 13-1 – well done Jack super strike.
With 5 mins left on the clock Aidan, Jye, Jamie knocked the ball around between themselves – back to Aidan to make it 14-1. 5 for him and not to be left out Jye popped up with another fine strike to make it 15. I think the ref got bored and stopped counting at this point because officially we only got 15 but I counted them out and counted them home.
Aidan again into the box – super cool finish 16-1 and SIX for you nice double hat trick.
And then to finish off Karlin what can I say, worked hard all the game battled hard for every ball and finished off in great style to make it 17-1. That really was a very good performance great discipline, great passing movement great to watch.
MoM would go to either Jye or Karlin so we gave it to both – Karlin for your hard work and Jye fantastic play making very well done. As always train hard for me Tues/Sat.
Villa next week so a tough game at their place.
