Great football – great result!
Stanway Villa
Been looking forward to this game as soon as the fixture list was printed. Villa are a very good, technical footballing side, who pass the ball about very well. They are also solid in defence and don’t concede many goals, which would probably suit our style of play.
Coming into this game they must have felt they owed us one or two.
This was a game to be patient in and take our chances when they came. “From the off boys”!
The ball was being passed neatly around the pitch by both teams and with only six minutes on the watch, Lee ran through midfield and hit a 25 yard scorcher goal bound – the keeper inexplicably left the ball thinking it was going wide, only for it to go fizzing passed him 1-0. Glad to see you have found your goal scoring boots.
A free kick about 30 yards out, Aidan put it close but close enough. End to end stuff with both team having chances.
Cailan gave us a bit of a scare at one point, not quite sure what he was trying to do – dribbling the ball out of his area. Bad boy Bad boy !!
With a minute left on the clock, another free kick about 25 yards out. Again, Aidan took – this time a real peach, nice bit of curl made it 2-0 just before half time.
Keep focused, keep it tight but most of all keep the ball.
The second half was very tight, Villa had a couple of chances but likewise we had our chances too – it was very tight and that’s how it finished. It was a very good win against a very good side.
Nidal got the Man of the Match award today – well done you have a difficult job and kept us out of trouble – good work. Lewis, again brilliant performance from you along with Alex.
Midfield worked tirelessly – well done Tye and James, who despite a painful knock, came back on to keep it steady.
Some great passing and movement out there today but as always lots to work on in training. Trust me your feet will be put firmly back on the ground Tuesday.
Very well done all of you. Keep working hard – NEVER BE COMPLACENT.
